The Heartthrob Vote? (Video)

For years, political campaigns have tried to figure out how to motivate the youth vote. For people who followed politics back when Bill Clinton was running for office will remember the Rock the Vote initiative which is still going strong today. This year, Campus Progress, a spin-off of the Center for American Progress, a liberal political group aiming to make “progressive change” in America. They recently held a contest, looking for videos that would find a clever way to get people to vote.

So they turned to a guy not old enough to vote and someone who isn’t even an American citizen. Politico has more

The organization is highlighting a submission to its VoteAgain2010 video contest that argues that while Bieber can’t vote in our midterms (he’s both too young and too Canadian), shouldn’t you? “We’re trying to leverage Bieber fever,” Campus Progress’s Sara Haile-Mariam told POLITICO. “Most of his fans are 12 years old — we acknowledge that.” Still, they hope that Bieber fans will “tell their parents. … The hope is to create something that goes viral and gets young people to be aware of the election.”
