Holy Cow! Joe Krebs From NBC4 Is Retiring

I love the NBC4 morning news show. Not sure what I’ll so without old Joe to start my morning. Maybe Imus?

NBC Washington reports:

Joe Krebs of NBC4 Washington today announced he will retire on March 30 after 32 years as a News4 anchor and reporter.

Krebs spent the last 18 years anchoring NBC4’s No. 1-rated morning news. News4 anchor Aaron Gilchrist will join Eun Yang as co-anchor of News4 Today upon Krebs’ departure, the station announced.

Krebs says he is looking forward to sleeping past 2 a.m. and enjoying retirement in the Washington area with his family. He will also continue working for News4 as a contributor.

“I really feel like I’ve been living my dream for almost 42 years, including the last 32 years here at Channel 4. Being a news broadcaster is what I always wanted to be,” Krebs said. “Now, I want to travel with my wife and spend more time with my kids and grandchild — soon to be grandchildren — and, quite frankly, just do whatever darn well I want to do.”

R.I.P. Davey Jones (Video)

Davey Jones, lead singer of The Monkees, has died at age 66:

A rep for the singer tells us Jones suffered a heart attack at his home this morning … and was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Jones is survived by his wife Jessica and 4 daughters from previous marriages. He was 66-years-old. Jones was married to Jessica Pacheco — his 3rd wife.

Jones joined The Monkees in 1965 … along with Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork … and together they churned out a bunch of hugely popular songs including 3 number 1 hits – “Daydream Believer,” “Last Train to Clarksville” and “I’m a Believer.”

Davey talks about the Monkees in this episode from the Biography channel where he answers a series of questions, including what it meant to him to be a member of the band.

Good News: Virginia Repeals One Gun A Month Law

Guns don’t kill people, people kill people and no matter if someone can buy one gun or six guns at a time, a person set on hurting someone will find a way.

Via WTOP:

Gov. Bob McDonnell on Tuesday signed a bill that repeals a law limiting individual handgun purchases to one per month, passed in 1993 when Virginia was a haven for gun runners.

McDonnell’s signature is no surprise. He had earlier expressed support for the bill, which gained final General Assembly passage on Feb. 15.

A McDonnell spokesman did not immediately return a message seeking comment.

The signing comes after McDonnell met with families of people killed or injured in the April 2007 shooting rampage at Virginia Tech, the worst mass shooting in U.S. history. The families had hoped to persuade him to veto the bill.

Study: More Americans Going To ER For Dental Work

Somehow, I don’t see the logic in seeing a medical Doctor to treat something a Dentist normally does.

Via WJLA:

More Americans are turning to the emergency room for routine dental problems — a choice that often costs 10 times more than preventive care and offers far fewer treatment options than a dentist’s office, according to an analysis of government data and dental research.

Most of those emergency visits involve trouble such as toothaches that could have been avoided with regular checkups but went untreated, in many cases because of a shortage of dentists, particularly those willing to treat Medicaid patients, the analysis said.

The number of ER visits nationwide for dental problems increased 16 percent from 2006 to 2009, and the report released Tuesday by the Pew Center on the States suggests the trend is continuing.

In Florida, for example, there were more than 115,000 ER dental visits in 2010, resulting in more than $88 million in charges. That included more than 40,000 Medicaid patients, a 40 percent increase from 2008.
