Tis the week for impossible basketball shots eh? Move over Armand Skele, you have company…
Via WJLA:
A Frederick teen has become an Internet and ESPN sensation after hitting a half-court basketball shot while doing a front flip.
Maciah Thomas’ shot was featured on ESPN Sportscenter Tuesday and has been viewed tens of thousands of times on YouTube.
The 15-year-old St. John’s Catholic Prep student says he became interested in parkour, a sport that involves running, jumps, flips, and tackling obstacles like people and walls, about a year ago.
A few weeks ago, he was in a weight lifting class at school and decided to combine his parkour skills with basketball.
“I just said, ‘I should try a front flip basketball shot half court,’” he told ABC7. “And it just went in.”

The Washington post reported Friday that Doug McKelway, the local ABC 7 host of Good Morning Washington has been fired. I posted about his suspension back in August. Warner Todd Huston, writing at Big Journalism, wonders if he was fired for being too conservative.
Maybe. But, he was fired for reporting facts.
McKelway reported on the size of the protest he covered on the day in question (it was small) and also reported the fact that the country’s Chief Executive, President Barack Obama, had received more money from ‘Big Oil’ than any Congressman in history. The protestors were protesting over the influence ‘Big Oil’ receives from Congress due to their donations.
As Erika Lovely from Politico reported back in May:
During his time in the Senate and while running for president, Obama received a total of $77,051 from the oil giant and is the top recipient of BP PAC and individual money over the past 20 years, according to financial disclosure records.
Was Ms. Lovely fired? No. Politico is part of the same company – Albritton Communications.
As the Washington Post points out:
McKelway has alleged liberal favoritism in news reporting before; when he left his anchor chair at WRC after nine years to join WJLA in mid-2001, he blasted the station’s lack of “balance,” in a newspaper article.
Apparently that was all left-wing station manager Bill Lord could take and it wasn’t long before McKelway was called on the carpet for his truthful portrayal of the tiny protest. The result was that McKelway officially “resigned,” but GM Bill Lord is still claiming that McKelway was fired because of “insubordination” and “misconduct.”
Doug McElway, a reporter for WJLA ABC7 news was suspended for reporting facts.

McKelway was suspended by the station following his July 20 report on a Capitol Hill rally by the left-wing groups Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace and Public Citizen. Anonymous sources at the station said he “lapsed into partisan territory,” according to the Washington Post.
Partisan? As the old saying goes, sometimes facts are stubborn things.
