Close to America’s Independence Day, Facebook’s algorithm, which is supposed to weed out fake news & hate speech, decided that the Declaration of Independence was hate speech.
Since June 24, the Liberty County Vindicator, of Liberty County, Texas, had been sharing daily excerpts from the Declaration of Independence in the run up to July Fourth. The idea was to encourage historical literacy among the Vindicator’s readers. That is, until Facebook stepped in. Facebook has now apologized.
Facebook ought to leave deciding what is fake or not fake or ‘hate speech’ to we users and prioritize the news feed for friends and family as it announced. Leave the rest alone.
