WestJet Christmas Miracle 2016: Fort McMurray Strong

WestJet – an airline known for its Christmas marketing (see this link and this link too) – took on as their ‘Christmas Miracle’ mission in 2016 to give back to the victims of the big Fort McMurray fire.

On May 1, 2016, a wildfire began southwest of Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada. On May 3, it swept through the community, destroying approximately 2,400 homes and buildings and forcing the largest wildfire evacuation in Albertan history. It is the costliest disaster in Canadian history. Many people lost everything, including family memories.

So for this year’s Christmas Miracle, the airline invited residents of Fort McMurray to a Christmas party where they could take their minds off the stress of the past seven months and (hopefully) create new family memories.
