New Jersey owns one of the largest tax burdens in the country because of pensions and benefits for public sector employees. Governor Chris Christie has been working hard to try and get the State of New Jersey’s massive entitlement problem under control. However, the unions are fighting back. For example, tens of thousands of union activists and radical leftists marched Sunday at the New Jersey State Capital to demand their extravagant pay checks and benefits.
The governor has called for workers to accept wage freezes and pushed for them to contribute toward their health benefits.
It appeared to be a day of food, fun and festivities, but chants of “we are not the problem” made it quickly evident this was no Saturday picnic.
But protestors were quick to point out there was a reason for the rally. Barbara Keshishian is the President of the New Jersey Education Association. She told the crowd “there is a time to fight and that time has now come.”
With signs in hand and voices at the ready, tens of thousands of public workers had a message for Governor Christie.
Teacher Stefanie Osmand said “we want to see some changes.” Her position was just cut to part-time after her district turned down the school budget. Many of her colleagues say the governor is arrogant and destructive. And his policies are spreading misinformation to voters.
Teacher Cate Seawall claims the Governor is “lying.”
This is exactly the same reason the folks in Greece have been protesting for sometime now. The hard left of the Democratic party has always known that once you get the people addicted to free this, free that, sweet deals, and easy living, they will riot before they will go back to taking care of themselves and working for a living.
