In this video from the grand opening of the Cato Institutes’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. in 1993, Libertarian economist Milton Friedman talks about the problems of leftist ideology and the consequences for society.
Senator Bernie Sanders has said Socialism is now mainstream in the Democratic Party. College students LOVE Socialism, but can’t define it. Here’s an excellent editorial on America’s growing fascination with Socialism and how it destroys economic freedom and property rights which are forcibly redistributed to the state.
Millennials from Turning Point USA traveled to Cuba to investigate the true realities of what a generation of full Socialism has done to the once-thriving Cuban population. Sixty years ago, communists seized power in Cuba and all private businesses and industries were nationalized and the Cuban people have lived under socialism ever since. MSNBC primetime anchor Lawrence O’Donnell visited C-Span’s Washington Journal on Tuesday to talk about his newly updated book ‘Deadly Force.’ During the interview, Larry gave a complete defense of socialism which is in line with Larry’s party. He mentions the differences between “socialism” and “democratic socialism” are ‘semantics’ (which is NOT true at all).
Larry also described Medicare as a “very smart socialistic program” (even though Medicare is $48T+ short in unfunded liabilities – T as in TRILLION) and praised state-driven centralized economic planning. If you are against socialism, Larry thinks your ignorant (his own words).
Socialism, whether democratic socialism or full socialism is bad policy and never ends up doing what it promises to do (except to make the ruling elite richer). Several countries have moved away from democratic socialism.
Socialism, like Liberalism, only redistributes misery. Capitalism is the only solution to fight poverty.
In a speech to the Progressive Change Campaign Committee Senator Bernie Sanders says that his far-left policies, like Medicare-for-All have become mainstream in the Democratic Party. Sir Winston Churchill said it best about Socialism.
Campus Reform asked Washington, D.C. college students two simple questions: “Do you like socialism?” and “What is socialism?” They could answer the first question but, had a lot of trouble with the second. Our kids future is stark for sure if Liberal colleges are turning out students like this.
One student said of socialism, “I think people throw that word around to try and scare you, but if helping people is socialism, than I’m for it.”
When asked how she would define socialism, her answer was simple: “I mean honestly I’m not not exactly sure.”
“I guess just, you know, getting rid of that wealth gap in the United States?” ventured another.
One student supported it passionately, saying “It’s more of an open form of government and it feels a lot more accessible to a lot more people,” but when asked to explain what socialism actually entails, could only repeat now-common refrain: “To be quite honest I don’t know.”
Good op/ed at the Washington Post on a topic I have blogged about before. Sadly though, millennials have little idea what socialism has meant for countries in the modern world. Click the link above to read it. Well worth a few minutes to explore the writers theory.
